10-gruppen - Ten Swedish Designers

The roots of 10-gruppen (Ten Swedish Designers) can be traced back to 1970 when it was founded by ten young textile designers who wanted to take control of the entire process of producing  or, in other words, secure good Swedish design.

Today the company is still owned and run by three of the founding members Birgitta Hahn, Tom Hedqvist and Ingela Håkansson, who design all the fabrics.

Birgitta Hahn has a portfolio of work numbering interior architecture, wallpaper, rugs and textiles for the likes of IKEA, KF, Duro, Svensk Tenn and numerous textile commissions for public spaces, theatre, dance works and the cinematic screen. Hedqvist studied graphic design and advertising at Beckmans School (which he later went on to act as its principle) and worked as an AD in several advertising agencies in Stockholm, founding the FGH agency and design company Element in 1981. The final member of the original ten is Ingela Håkansson whose resume reads equally well, including work for IKEA, Borås Cotton, a host of solo and group exhibitions and even a childrens book to her name, together with Katta Nordenfalk.

During its lengthy existence, 10-gruppen has exhibited its bold prints and textiles across the world and its outlet on Stockholm's Södermalm island remains a firm favourite of tourists and locals.
